Jestaminute Community Theatre bring you  a new play' An Angel Abroad...' which is coming to a venue near you.  Funded by Arts Council England and Worcestershire Council and  based on real life accounts; this new production tells the stories of three relationships dealing with the issue of power and control.

An invitation to Vamos Theatre’s final performance of Finding Joy

Finding Joy is ending its national tour at the Swan in Worcester!

After a hugely successful national tour, Finding Joy 2013 is nearing its final performance. We’re delighted that this last show will be back on home turf, at the Swan Theatre, Worcester on July 20th.

Finding Joy is a full mask show that tells the story of Joy Wilson, a funny and gentle 80-something, and her grandson Danny, a teenager who’s going off the rails. It's a show about memory, aging, love, and - of course - about Joy! Press have described the show as ‘perfect’, 'exquisite', 'such a triumph' and ‘a deeply moving joie de vivre’.

As a friend of Vamos, we’d love you to come to the final show on the 20th. To book tickets you can visit www.worcesterlive.co.uk or call the Swan Box Office on 01905 611427. There is also a celebration party afterwards at Worcester Arts Workshop to which you are cordially invited.

We look forward to seeing you!

All the best

Stop Press: Treasury have agreed a 5% cuts deal agreed for the arts within the CSR

Stop Press: Treasury have agreed a 5% cuts deal agreed for the arts within the CSR

The national papers on Saturday broke the story that the DCMS has settled with the Treasury for the Comprehensive Spending Review for 2014-15 at 8%, and that the arts have got a ring-fenced 5% cut deal from George Osborne. It is a great deal for the DCMS and Maria Miller compared with what it might have been:  with a 10% and a 15% reduction model also being evaluated by ACE and other subsidy distributors. 5% is still going to be painful, but there may be ways of reducing the impact, at least partly through the lottery. The news was actually released by the Treasury rather than the DCMS, and perhaps reflects the steady stream of briefings directly to Osborne by national museum directors, Peter Bazalgette (CEO of ACE) and other leading spokespeople reflecting the impact in the sector of more substantial cuts.

Art Review - Movement Gallery at Worcester's Foregate St. Sation, Blackbird in Infospace, the exhibition which has come out of Juneau Project's recent residency at Worcester City Museum and Art Gallery.

I recently visited Movement Gallery at Worcester's Foregate St. Sation, to see Blackbird in Infospace, the exhibition which has come out of Juneau Project's recent residency at Worcester City Museum and Art Gallery.

The exhibition features objects which serve as post-apocalyptic artefacts (or "Infopocalypse" as the accompanying literature describes it), showing the an imagined world as it was before it ended. Technology is heavily featured in the exhibition, in particular through the use of laser cutting as a typically industrial method to produce fine art, an evocative contrast which alludes to what kind of world the artists imagine these objects being relics from.

The wider project produced by this residency is also very technology focused, with USB access points set up all over the city allowing Juneau Projects' to give away their Worcester-inspired album track by track to anyone who has a USB stick, simply by pushing a button. The USB points as housed in shrines in five Worcester landmarks – The Hive, Movement Gallery, Rise Worcester, the Guildhall, and Worcester City Museum and Art Gallery. The tracks contain sounds gathered from all over the city, and sometimes even created by residents. This project both narrows and widens; the music has been collected from sounds made all over the city, yet visitors will have to traverse the city in order to collect each song.

I also quickly paid a visit to the Worcester City Museum and Art Gallery itself to revisit the My Generation exhibition. For me, highlights of this chronological look at art over several decades included John Collier's 1914 Clytemnestra, Gillian Ayres' 1993 Sika II, and Eastside Projects' collaborators Heather and Ivan Morrison's 2004 I put you on a mile long string, but you still broke away. As with the Juneau Projects work, this is well worth a visit.
