Writing West Midlands is seeking an Operations Assistant to support its core team of 4 across all its projects and events throughout the year, including the annual Birmingham Literature Festival.

The role will be for 3-4 days a week dependent on experience, permanent, with an initial 3-month probation period.

Deadline for applications: 24 July, 5pm

Salary: £18,000 – £20,000 pro rata dependent on experience.

The role will include the following:

  • Author liaison during festivals and events (booking travel and accommodation, briefing speakers, and creating schedules for them and their publicists.)
  • Recruiting and managing volunteers for festivals and events.
  • Box office liaison for festivals and events, in coordination with the PR & Communications Manager
  • Website and social media management, in coordination with the PR & Communications Manager
  • Administration of the monthly Spark Young Writers’ groups, in coordination with the Learning & Participation Manager.
  • Database Management
  • Some office management – ordering of supplies for the office, ensuring IT and equipment is maintained and safety-checked as required.
  • Any other tasks which may reasonably be expected.

Person specification:

This role is a perfect entry point into working in arts administration, and would suit a recent graduate, someone changing the direction of their career or looking to re-enter the workforce after a career break.

The role will be 3 to 4 days a week, depending on the person, and time can be organised flexibly in the week to suit the right candidate.

Writing West Midlands is particularly interested in applications from those who feel they have transferable skills from other industries or relevant experience.
