Artist Opportunity

MAKE/SHIFT/METHODS – Artist Lab Day

Sunday 26th June  10-4pm @ mac Birmingham

Make/Shift/Space is a portable artist structure, used to platform site-specific work and social practice. To conclude an 8-week schedule of public artist residencies and events supported by Arts Council England and mac Birmingham, Emily Warner & Claire Hickey will lead a practical workshop for students, recent graduates and early career artists from the West Midlands region.

Presenting an overview of the residency programme, the workshop will examine four points of enquiry: WORK / SENSE / SIGN / FUNCTION. Participants will explore the use of object, body, word and action as material for creating location specific art works. Using the Make/Shift/Space structure as an interface for engaging with place, the group will create interventions and short performative broadcasts that will be exhibited online.

This workshop will provide 12 artists with the opportunity to develop their practice within a site-specific context, using a playful approach to devise new techniques for working. Successful applicants will be encouraged to work collaboratively and experiment with live art-making processes.

To apply, please send a one page artist CV, web links (if applicable) and a 150-word statement detailing your interest in this opportunity and how it will develop your current practice. Submissions should be sent to claire@makeshiftspace.org by Friday 24th June 2016.
