KAF SMALL SCALE COMMISSIONS

Continuing our partnership with the Xpressions Leisure Grant Scheme KAF now seeks proposals from Wyre Forest based artists who can create a site specific work on the theme of ‘Music’. This theme is to celebrate the beginning of the Kidderminster Music Heritage Trail, we are exploring music in its broadest sense, what it’s like to be at a gig or in a band, what is the essence of music, the inspiration for lyrics, back stage experiences, tour vans, rock gods, how has it affected fashion, politics and social movements, how has it affected you?
Artist should demonstrate through their proposal the link with the theme and describe the context they would like to display their work; we are particularly looking for outdoor work.

When will it happen?
The KAF Small Scale Commissions Scheme will commission new works to be shown at KAF 2016 between the 6th and the 27th of August.
You must display your work for at least one day, though we encourage you to display your work for longer, please give details of this in your proposal. We would like as many people to be exposed or involved with it as possible.

Budget
Applicants could be given a grant of £250 towards their costs on completion of the work.  You must give a detailed budget breakdown of the costs you anticipate you will incur during the production and installation of your work. If you project costs more than the grant you must outline where the rest of the money will come from.

Scheme Deadlines
The scheme will be advertised widely from March 2016 for artists to apply the closing date will be close of business May 20th
Selections will be made by May 27th 2016

What are we looking for?
Our priority for selection will be visual art or mixed art form work, which can appear at the festival for a minimum of one full day.
Artists should submit a proposal outlining their idea in full in no more than 2 sides of A4, you can include images of previous work to give an indication of your style and to show your experience of using different materials.  You can also send a C.V.
Considerations should be given to health and safety, appropriate use of space and appeal to our audiences.  You must identify the site you would like to use if you have a fixed idea of location in mind, otherwise your work will be located to compliment other elements of the program.  Please also state if you have dates where you and your work will not be available to display or any dates your work would not be available.
Your idea must be new, or in development and have never been shown in Worcestershire previously.
Your proposal should outline the following:
  • Exactly what you plan to do.
  • How your work will be presented and any limitations or preferences on time/days  it is to be displayed
  • Your preference for its location.
  • How it will be installed and removed, how long will this take?
  • How the project might benefit the development of your work
  • Why you think KAF is a good place to present your work.
