Creative Futures: Mentoring - A pilot scheme looking at how mentoring fits into business models, and how young artists can benefit from it!

Creative Futures: Mentoring

What is it?

Creative Futures: Mentoring is a pilot scheme looking at how mentoring fits into business models, and how young artists can benefit from it.

As an organisation, we have benefited greatly from mentoring that has helped CAGED Arts grow over the past 18months and now it is time for us to give something back.

We are offering 4 young artists based in Worcestershire mentoring support across 6 months to support you in growing you art, developing as a professional and building a strong network.

Who is it for?

Anyone from any artistic discipline and at any point in their career, are welcome to apply, however you must:

Be aged between 18-30 on the 1st January 2017

Feel that you would benefit from mentoring.

Be based in Worcestershire

How do you apply?

To apply please complete the application form by 25th November 2016. The application is there to look at your passion, it’s not about what you’ve done, where you’ve trained, or who you know; it’s about why you do what you do. This is not an assessment of your artistic track record, we want to get to know you.

If you’ve any further questions, please contact info@cagedarts.com

Launch Party - A new play about twin sisters a universe apart!

Press Release 20th October

National Rural Tour, Autumn 2016
Bucket Club and Farnham Maltings present:

Launch Party
A new play about twin sisters a universe apart

Martha and Vi are twins. They grew up side by side, watching the stars - peas in a pod - but recently they’ve drifted. While Martha has stayed in their home village, laying down roots, Vi has been across the globe training as an astronaut, preparing to launch herself into the unknown.

Before Vi blasts off, Martha has arranged a party in the local hall to send her off in style. She’s laid out snacks, hired a DJ and invited the whole village. Will it be enough to reunite the sisters before Vi heads into the stars?

Using playful storytelling, innovative live music and original songs, this new play by Bucket Club investigates ambition, space travel and how we carry home with us wherever we go.
Praise for Bucket Club’s Lorraine & Alan (Edinburgh Fringe and national tour 2014-2015):
" A very lovable show with buckets of charm" – Lyn Gardner, Guardian

"A triumph of layered, lo-fi storytelling and unexpected poignancy" – Fest Magazine

★★★★★ – Broadway Baby ★★★★★ – Arts Award Voice ★★★★★ – Entertainment Wise

★★★★ – The Stage ★★★★ – The Scotsman ★★★★ – Fest ★★★ – The Guardian

Winner: The Brighton Fringe Award for Excellence. Winner: MTN Award for innovation in Music. Winner: The Pleasance Theatre’s Charlie Hartill Fund for Theatre. Nominated: The Arches Brick Award. Nominated: Peter Brook Empty Space Award

Launch Party is made specifically for rural touring. It is performed in traverse with four performers and a collection of instruments. The performers create live sound design and music by recording sound and manipulating it electronically, combining it with choral singing to build haunting soundscapes and original songs.

Bucket Club are a collective of artists who met at Bristol University and work with live music, new writing and devising to make playfully adventurous theatre. They are an associate company at Farnham Maltings.
Launch Party is being presented as a world premiere. It is a co-production between Bucket Club and Farnham Maltings and is supported by Arts Council England.

Cast: Adam Farrell (Mike), David Ridley (Dennis), Katie Sherrard (Vi), Helen Vinten (Martha)

An Introduction to 1000 Days by Steve Wilson – County Arts Officer.

1000 days is the new Arts Strategy for Worcestershire.  From 2016, over three years, we anticipate to show how the Arts matter in Worcestershire – to communities, people, businesses, and arts organisations.

Why 1000 days?

We aim for the Arts Strategy to be an active, living plan, driving the development of the arts throughout the county, whilst also making the arts relevant to Worcestershire's people and places.

1000 days is the period of time over which the strategy will be delivered. Our objective is that, within this period, our action plan will have been carried out.

Our Objectives and Priorities

One: To make the arts in Worcestershire as accessible as possible to as many people as we can.

Two: To increase the size and impact of the arts sector in Worcestershire

Three: To develop and encourage art forms in Worcestershire

Four: To widen opportunities for as many young people as we can and access high quality arts in order to enable young people to play a lead role in shaping the arts throughout the county, whilst contributing to improving the lives of people of all ages and backgrounds.

Five: To boost prospects for the arts to be used in improving the health of individuals of all age groups, assisting with the provision of life-affirming health and wellbeing choices for all.

With the assistance of a number of organisations, local and national, we aim to achieve these objectives and create a more vibrant and successful arts scene, raising the profile of the arts across Worcestershire.

Follow us on our journey by reading further blog posts about 1000 days, which will enable you to view our project as it develops!

Fund of the week! £££££££!

Steve went to a briefing this week from the Arts Council on the new guidance for the new round of National Portfolio Funding.  For those who haven't dipped their toes into Arts Council funding this is for those organisations who are looking to get regular funding. It is for bigger arts organisations and certainly the reporting and work you need to do aren't for everyone and it's not clear how many new NPO clients they would be taking on but it's worth a look and please let me know if you are considering a bid. For more information please look at http://www.artscouncil.org.uk/funding

WAP Week

October 15th marked day 15 of 1000 days and it was great to do a soft launch of 1000 days with a really nice event at the Cube in Malvern. There was an open space event about collaboration as well as the launch itself and then a  real treat to see the moving Magnetic Diaries. Thanks to all at the Cube for a great day.

The Children and Young People Group are running a great project with The University of Worcester, funded through support of the Elmley Foundation. Named Moving on Staying On it gives five artists/arts organisations some funding and a mentor to develop their practice. Its all about maintaining skills in the county and we are really excited about some of the outcomes from it.

Our Arts and Health Group are planning a new event on the subject of Obesity. We are hoping to  do this in collaboration with our friends in the Sports Partnership. We have a planning event on Thursday 10th November at The Hive with the actual event at Wychavon Council in January. Watch this space for more details.

Think of England! A play set in World War II about courage, bravery & swing dancing!!

Think of England

Two women on a mission to show you a good time!

Based on real events ‘Think of England’ is a rollicking new play about courage, bravery & swing dancing.

In the Summer of 1943, Bette and Vera travel the country hosting tea dances for RAF fighter pilots stationed nearby. What the locals don’t know is that the dance is a cover for the girls’ real purpose; to send the men off to fight having experienced all of life’s pleasures…

Just like the women on whom the show is based AIAWTC will be travelling the country boosting morale with this heart-warming knees up. The audience will be invited to drink, dance, and raise a glass to good King George whilst watching this captivating drama about two women in WWII.

Developed with  ‘Live & Local’ as part of their ‘Developing Artists in Rural Touring’ Scheme, the play has been supported by Arts Council England.

The Company

Local company ‘Anonymous Is a Woman Theatre Co’ are dedicated to bringing audiences high quality, engaging, theatrical experiences that tell the unheard stories of women throughout history and across the world. The company was set up by two graduates of the Drama Centre London as a reaction against the lack of female roles in the industry. Armed with aspirations of gender equality the company wish to tell her-story from history. One half of the founding pair, Leila Sykes, grew up in Malvern, where the company is based.  The company are dedicated to bringing their brand high-quality, innovative theatre to the region.

In Spring 2016 the company did a critically acclaimed run of ‘First Aid Nursing Yeomanry’ at the Arts Theatre in London’s West End after a midlands tour in 2015. Catch their new hit near you while you can!
